This eye-popping American black walnut above, and the gorgeous maple in the photo at the top of the preceding page were obtained by the customer from Johnson Wood Products in Strawberry Point, Iowa. These were two of four Model 61's that I restocked for a man and his son. Two were .22 LR and two were .22RF magnum.
Work on these stocks entailed completing the inletting on the semi-inletted blanks, shaping to the customer's specifications, fitting rubber butt pads or Neider metal butt plates and pistol grip caps, sanding and oil finishing to a dull velvet luster. The time to complete each of these 4 stock sets ranged from 14 to 19 hours. Simple stocks for similar guns will take about the same amount of time.
